“By treating the top five floors conceptually as a vertical augmentation to the neighborhood’s historical typology, we elected to create a different skin for it.” The structure on 120 Allen street houses four apartments and sixteen studios, which were also furnished by the practice. The building’s main feature is its facade, which is divided into two parts: the lower part consists of brick with masonry details, paying homage to the surrounding area, while the upper part is comprised of zinc panels that create a unique interplay of shadows. As for the interior, the architects decided on exposed walls and a steel structure.
