South Korean artist and designer Soojin Kang created a range of avant-garde chairs that explore the textures of seating.
“[The] chairs are eaten, dominated and captured by the weaving” Employing tools not traditionally associated with weaving, Kang repurposed natural raw materials to create a new warped weave, with which she enveloped chairs, which become “consumed by the weave in their construction, as a way of commenting on the relationship between reality, representation and illusion.“ A statement by the artists explains, “[The] chairs are eaten, dominated and captured by the weaving, providing an opportunity to experience objects differently, in a textile form.”
