Pastel Scenes At The Swimming Pool By Maria Svarbova

Scroll

Slovakian photographer Maria Svarbova created a series of images depicting various scenes in a swimming pool with a surreal touch.

“My photographs are a succession of short scenes in which the frontality and absence of contrasts remove any narrative dimension.” Titled ‘In The Swimming Pool’, the pastel-colored series consists of carefully arranged subjects with an almost robotic appearance. Svarbova originally studied conservation, restoration and archeology and we’ve featured her work previously.

Speaking about the concept behind her photography, she says in an exclusive statement: “Reworking the concept of the photo novel that originated through a combination of cinema and comic strips, my photographs are a succession of short scenes in which the frontality and absence of contrasts remove any narrative dimension in favor of the fullness of the photographic surface.”
