Copenhagen-based COBE Architects designed a kindergarten modeled on simple children’s drawings of houses with peaked roofs.
Having won a 2011 contest to design the Frederiksvej Kindergarten in collaboration with landscapers Preben Skaarup, engineer Søren Jensen and Learning Spaces consultancy, COBE designed a set of multi-purpose structures made from metal mesh, allowing plenty of light to filter through. Speaking of the inspiration behind the design, architect Dan Stubbergaard explains, “We have worked to create a simple expression, as a caricature of how a child might draw a house. The roofline for example, is kept uncluttered by means of hidden drains and precise material connections, and the windows are carefully designed to look frameless.”
