A House With Space For Contemporary Art

Japanese architecture studio APOLLO designed a house that also serves as a private gallery space for the owners’ contemporary art collection.

Located in Obu city, the GAZE house is built on a podium made of reinforced concrete. The building owes its distinctive character to the unusual arrangement of its parts, in which the floor areas become larger as they go up. The first floor hosts a gallery space dedicated to the client’s private collection of art. The space is partially lowered to the underground level and has a concrete partition to manipulate the daylight and allow the visitors viewing the art pieces with a light reflected on the ceiling.
“It will be a space to live among art pieces without loosing a sense of privacy.”
