In his project, Dan turns his camera to the earthen materials that are usually used to build and shape the urban environment. However, he leaves the scenes without a particular context in terms of location, scale and human elements in order to simply highlight the aesthetic aspect of the landscapes. “There’s a beauty to mines and quarries when you explore the shapes, color and texture of what’s left behind, which is kind of perverse in a way,” he says.
