A Floating Holiday Home Atop Welsh Hills

Just off Brecon Beacons National Park, the structure appears to hover above a stream in the area’s rocky terrain. Titled ‘Ty Hedfan‘, the house’s design was inspired by the traditional local structure of a long rectangular shape, typical for this area. In addition to the two riverside external decks, inside, the retreat is equipped with a large kitchen and a dining room with a fireplace.

Speaking about the idea behind the project, the architects say: “Ty Hedfan – meaning ‘hovering house’ – is an exploration of the practice’s interest in highly site specific and contextual architecture which takes its cue from the traditional Welsh long house form and the topographical constraints of the site.”
