A Design Collection Created From Currency

The collection explores the use of currency in today’s society in an abstract way – or how the designer describes it: “a play on the iconographic meaning of one of the globe’s fundamental systems: money.” To form the pieces, the coins and dollar notes were cast before put together like building blocks. The series was first exhibited at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the project, Bruggink says: “What does a 1-dollar bill or a 5-euro cent coin represent? Opportunity? Choice? Control over one’s life? Greed? Empirical expansion? A flawed system we cannot control? What money represents is as diverse and hard to define as our own relationship with it.” Based in Rotterdam, Bruggink works in the realms of architecture and design and his pieces have been exhibited internationally.
