The Tempestuous Paris Of Teddy Delcroix

Scroll

French art director and photographer Teddy Delcroix freezes in time snippets of life on the street of the Paris.

Taken on film, Delcroix’s photographs offer a different glimpse into the street life of the French capital. Though his focus is on classically Parisian subject matter – scooters, pigeons, Hausmannian facades – his work eschews cliché, offering instead moments of surprise and humor, laced with a thoughtful aesthetic sensibility and an eye for the details that most might pass by. Together, the series forms a conflicted love letter to the city, as expressed by Delcroix in the accompanying statement to this work:

“Paris, my lovely Paris. I both love and hate you.
Your stone cold heart sometimes dampens people who flow into your arteries.
Your cries suffocate my quietude, gimme some air to see more clearly.
Step back so that I can appreciate your greatness.
Stop your mise-en-Seine, just be yourself so I can see you.
Paris, I love you.”
