Playful in forms and colours, ‘Mitate’ is a collection of seven lamps, each named in a reference to different Samurai principle.

“With the collection ‘Mitate’, a game is played between the simplicity of the lamps and the sophistication of their Japanese forms.” In Japanese, ‘mutate’ signifies a multi-layered, comparative approach to otherwise familiar objects, allowing observers to contemplate an item with a fresh eye in order to gather the new experience of it. The Eindhoven-based design studio Wieki Somers redefined the historical Samurai flags whose designs identified clans and demonstrated their unique powers and translated them into a family of contemporary lamps. “With the collection Mitate, a game is played between the simplicity of the lamps and the sophistication of their Japanese forms,” say the designers. All the pieces come in a limited edition of four and are named after the Samurai principles, such as bravery, compassion honor or taking the right course of action.
