Portuguese design and architecture practice Estudio ODS refurbished a narrow terraced townhouse in Tavira, Portugal.
“The materials used seek the simplicity found in Algarve’s vernacular architecture.”Founded by architects Marlene Santos and Bruno Oliveira, ODS took on the renovation of ‘House ALM’, refocussing the house’s layout on an inner courtyard that provides natural light and ventilation. The house’s exterior is marked by a staircase which connects the home’s three levels and leads to rooftop terrace providing sweeping views over the city. With a ground floor covered in hydraulic mosaics, the architects explain, “The materials used seek the simplicity found in Algarve’s vernacular architecture.”
