Spaces By Romain Laprade

Scroll

In his picture series “Spaces“ Paris-based photographer Romain Laprade depicts various places he can blend into. Laprade is so passionate about taking pictures that he describes it as a form of addiction. In search of meaningful photos he travels to different cities all over the world.

The photographer finds the inspiration for his works by observing his environment. While he is taking long walks, his eyes discover little details that would not attract the attention of other people. These incidental details highlight the interaction between the photographer and colors, rays of light, shadows or textures. Moreover, Laprade is fascinated with the interplay of nature and urban structures. Still, he wants to provide a photographic platform for things and spaces that are rather neglected in our society. “I have an obsession: building halls. These are places of passing that not a lot of people take the time to look at“, explains the photographer. He states that between the 1960s and the 1980s halls were of particular importance to architects. But today people don’t acknowledge the beauty of these lobbies anymore. They have transformed into places people pass through in order to reach their destination. “These are the places I love to photograph the most“, says Laprade.
