This modernist hideaway by Lake Immeln in Sweden offers a return to nature for holiday-goers. Removed from the world both physically and technologically, Vipp Shelter might be almost off-grid, but it certainly isn’t lacking in luxury.

Vipp is a Danish design company, who have in recent years extended their reach beyond contemporary homewares to design-spaces themselves. This modern escape is one such example, powerful in its simplicity, patiently considered and thoughtfully designed. The 55 square meter structure juts from the rugged Swedish landscape, framed by naked trees and the stillness of Lake Immeln. As the chief designer from Vipp, Morton Bo Jensen, explains, We craved birdsong and open skies. To get out of the city with all the necessities and nothing more. The shelter is the result of that dream.” With the landscape in mind, the living space has been designed with sliding glass walls — opening onto the lake at the Shelter’s front and the forest at its rear. This interplay between inside and outside continues throughout the space, with the feature skylights in the bedroom for late-night stargazing through the branches of the trees above. This space has been designed as if it were a product; the mindful creativity of Vipp evident in the details and finishes of the Shelter — fancy yourself there? You can book online here.
