Having grown up on Vancouver Island in a small coastal town surrounded by nature, Ian Lanterman decided to fly the nest, temporarily relocating to Japan. During his time there, he discovered the work of surrealist photographer Shoji Ueda and was inspired to begin his own photographic career.
Ian’s images are characterized by details of the nature he grew up around and minimalist subtleties of Japanese culture. Now working between New York and Vancouver, Ian specializes in editorial and still life photography. Ian’s still life is characterized by a conceptual and playful personality, championing vibrant hues and abstract composition. His editorial imagery elegantly bathes his subjects in a natural glow, illuminating the beauty of the everyday. Ian’s work is unified by an emotional evocation, consideration of color, symmetrical composition and attention to detail, which allows Ian to deliver simple photographs with a strong impact.
