In ‘Muses’, Hawaiian artist Christy Lee Rogers explores Baroque plays of light and movement in a photographic series of figures underwater.

Her cloth-clad subjects are luminous and weightless, but despite their likeness to the figures in works by the Baroque masters, they haven’t been immortalized in paint. As the sun goes down, Rogers begins her process. Immersing her subjects in water, she photographs them using the last rays of light. ‘Muses’ is a working response to a year of loss, in a recent interview Rogers explained that, “These images represent a soft and special place that I imagine exists, where you can be free to let go and experience the beauty surrounding you.”
