What better excuse for a gargantuan exhibition based around play than a name change and a shop relocation? Last month Mikiya Kobayashi created a play park in his store in Tokyo to thank those who had supported his work (and, their children), titling the space ‘Playscape’.

Featuring five different items ranging from a swing to a seesaw, a cradle, a double-sided slide, and a rocking chair, ‘Playscape’ is a far cry from the damp pine bark and broken play equipment we expect to find in parks. The pieces in Kobayashi’s elegantly curated, minimalist playground have been crafted from Japanese hardwood and then upholstered with fabrics by Kvadrat. The realization of the project was supported by Karimoku, a Japanese furniture design company whose hardwood, sustainably minded furniture we have featured previously on IGNANT.
