In Porto, local creative studio FAHR 021.3 has created ‘Loop’: A circular concrete sculpture symbolizing the passing of time, created to celebrate the anniversary of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto.
The uniquely annular form of ‘Loop’ rolls in waves and its height, whilst aesthetically considered, is uneven at points. Its form is intended to represent the continual movement of time, and its stasis and flux. “In the combination of a concrete circle bench with an organic texture,” the designers explain, “Loop assumes the idea that repetition is never equal… With each circle that closes new textures are generated, bringing their own identity.” Its location at the front of the university makes it a meeting place for the community; both a sculpture and a functional piece of social infrastructure.
