Rhythm And Repetition Take Form In Jean Couvreur’s Modular Shelving System

Called the ‘Frequence Bookcase’, Couvreur’s latest work is constructed from two shapes, each cut from 3mm aluminum steel. These shapes fit together to form a single unit of the bookcase, and can thus be added to in whichever way the owner sees fit—whether that is widthwise, heightwise, or both. “Their number and sense of positioning allow the creation of many configurations”, explains the designer “[a] bookcase, but also low furniture, or separated walls”. The repetition of a single abstract shape gives a sense of movement and rhythm to the shelving system, whilst also allowing it to be easily packed down and stored.
