Danny Duncombe’s Thoughtful Exploration Of Our Interior And Exterior Worlds

Inspired by lines drawn by architects such as Louis Kahn, Rudolph Schindler, Le Corbusier, and Richard Neutra, these pieces—though smaller in scale and prone to shifting shape when your perspective changes—could be perceived as small buildings. They have deliberate Escher-like structures that Duncombe explains are designed to “deliver infinite variations of light and shadow resulting in multiple interpretations”. Such multiplicity sits at the very heart of the project, which aims to explore “exterior appearance and interior experience”. Each piece quite literally contains a story; a word or a phrase etched into its interior walls. “As with all architecture it’s the stories that develop inside a structure that really matter”, Duncombe explains.
