French design house Ligne Roset has recreated a number of Pierre Paulin’s iconic designs, including Paulin’s ‘Daybed’—an elegant furniture piece designed by Paulin in 1953, with a versatile range of compositions: sofa, bed, or seat with an integrated side table.

The daybed was part of a collection that debuted in his 1953 exhibition at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris. “The reduced elegance of the char was revolutionary at the beginning of the 1950s, and seems more relevant today than ever before,” explains a statement from Ligne Roset. “The preference for natural materials such as wood, the desire for less consumption and a concentration on honest, essential products, all speak for the daybed”. An emphasis on Scandinavian design and a return to 1950s aesthetics is a well-established occurrence in the world of furniture design; it was in this era that progressive manufacturing techniques and classic styles emerged that remain today. The Pierre Paulin Daybed contrasts light and dark wood—beech and American walnut, with two-tone cushions and reinforced with a metal frame with black steel feet.
