The London-based studio Industrial Facility has created a limited-edition series of minimal lamps for the Swedish lighting company Wästberg. The ‘w182 Pastille’ collection includes free-standing table and floor lamps, clamp-on lamps, and wall-mounted lamps with no visible cable.
The lamps are made from a bioplastic material composed from the castor bean plant, that has been reinforced with glass fiber. The composite is heavier than normal plastics, giving it a finish that looks more in line with pure metal lamps. The ‘w182 Pastille’ collection comes in a range of colors; black, dark green, red, and white. The colors are achieved by mixing the pigment into the plastic; no further coatings of paint are added. “This recyclable material provides warmth and strength, and makes [the brightness] lighter and easier to adjust from anywhere on the lamp,” explains the studio. The design of a circular disk attached to a thin, straight arm is simple in form, producing a gentle light that aims to complement the ambience of a room.
