Set within a former art museum in a neoclassicist building from 1914, ‘Studio Oliver Gustav’ is a remarkable showroom and store in Copenhagen’s upscale neighborhood Østerbro. The space, still fitted with its original arched skylights and wooden floorboards, has a moody atmosphere that perfectly complements the sophisticated, textural pieces.
The studio was founded by designer Oliver Gustav in 2009, who today works across multiple disciplines; spanning from his own home collection to exquisite curations of art pieces, antiques, and rare objects. Gustav’s skill lies in combining uncommon and antique finds with stark and modern interiors, while paying great attention to surfaces and scale. The studio acts as a blend between an antique art museum and a modern, Scandinavian home, with its gray-scale color palette and almost cinematic feel. From a 1930s pink velvet Art Deco chair and the iconic 1970s Ultra Fragola squiggle mirror by Ettore Sottsass, to sandstone sculptures and vases by Rick Owens, Studio Oliver Gustav is truly a unique space to visit in Copenhagen.
