Ria Mort’s Dreamlike Photographs Exude Raw, Intimate Emotion

Scroll

“My photographs are more than what the eye sees; I want people to feel them,” Ria Mort tells IGNANT. The Greek conceptual and fashion photographer invites viewers to slow down and take the time to savor the poetry of light, shapes, and emotion that defines her image-making.

Mort started experimenting with photography at the age of 12. “I always felt the desire to share my feelings with the world; when I held my first camera, I knew this was the means to do it,” she explains. With an insatiable desire to dive deeper into the scenes that surround us and the moments that define her personal story, Mort’s photographs are the fruits of introspection and her meditation on society. Through her exquisite compositions and stunning fashion portraits rich in color, she urges viewers to stop the restless scroll our eyes have mastered and linger instead on the details. “Beneath its surface, my work has a poetic sadness,” she adds. Embodying a unique dynamic use of light and texture, and touching on themes of loneliness, absence, and confinement, her imagery takes us beyond perceived reality—to a place where desires and fears accumulate.
