A Café With Pivoting Doors On A Volcanic Island

Located on the coast of the South Korean volcanic island Jeju, architecture practice platform_a designed a translucent building featuring floor-to-ceiling pivoting windows for stunning views of the water.
Titled ‘Platform_monsant’, the box-shaped structure is nestled into the island’s rocky terrain. To further integrate the volume into the surrounding landscape, the architects installed a crushed concrete wall, reflecting glass doors and volcanic stone elements for the interior. Additionally, the single-story structure features a rooftop terrace that functions as an observation deck. In a statement about the project, the architects say: “Our goal was not to emphasize the architecture by landscape, but to highlight the landscape by architecture.”
