In her ongoing ‘Body Becoming’ series, American photographer Leah Edelman-Brier explores the portrayal and abjection of the female body.
Placing the mother-daughter relationship at the center of her series, Edelman-Brier calls into question the blurred lines between sexuality, beauty and decay, in an examination of the effect of time on related human bodies. In a statement about her work, the artist states: “The mixing notions of genetic lineage, the process of aging, and the lack of control presented by destiny, exacerbates an anxiety, which speaks to a profound fear of becoming the mother.”
