The Ever-Shifting Red Zone

Scroll

The accomplished self-taught Iranian photographer, Jalal Sepehr’s ‘Red Zone’ series explores the ever-shifting topography of turmoil in the Middle East in montaged images.

Employing the traditional Middle Eastern rug as the linking motif throughout the works – which were created between 2013 – 2015 – Sepehr sets symbols of upheaval against a striking horizon backdrop. Speaking of the intention behind the series, Sepehr says, “With my perceptions of changes and turmoil in the Middle East and more exposure to influence and intervention of foreign forces in this region of the world which in various forms in the context of these communities and their effects reveal problems like war, immigration, asylum seekers and issues that I tried to reflect […] with my own personal imagination.”
