This Hawaiian home is owned by windsurfing sail designer Robert Stroj, where he also fabricates his sails. In response to the rocky landscape, the structure is embedded into the sloping site. Atypically for US standards, the house is constructed out of concrete blocks, which just reflects the European origin of the owner. Dekleva Gregorič designed an angular roof that covers the five irregular volumes enclosing private areas. The house consists of self-contained private units combining bedroom and bathroom as an en-suite double room. Each separate housing unit has an U–shaped volume in order to open up and frame the perfect ocean view. A public space between the enclosed private volumes is used for cooking, eating, and lounging. The irregular form of the wooden roof is strongly related to the rough climate with plenty of sun and strong ocean winds. Residents can access the expansive geometric roof, which serves as a folded wooden deck to enjoy a lofty view of the Pacific Ocean. Local materials were incorporated, including rendered load-bearing walls with a plaster finish partially made of beach sand.
