Over the past three years, London-based photographer Suzie Howell has been regularly visiting the Walthamstow Marshes. With her ‘Inside The Spider’ series, Suzie explores her personal relationship with, and the potential history of, one of the last natural wetlands in the capital city.
Suzie’s photography is a spectacle of surprise – through her stylized lens the marshes radiate an undeniable beauty, perhaps not instantly recognized. Although ethereal in nature, as the light dances through the trees and organic silhouettes cast shadows over the wetland floor, the atmosphere in some of the photographs is arguably eerie. An abundance of out-of-place objects forces the audience to consider events that once took place here, inviting them to interpret the ambiguous narrative for themselves.
