In a secluded area of lush countryside in central Poland is ‘By The Way House’: a modern, two-storey residence designed by KWK Promes, that is wrapped up by the illusion of a continuous road.

The dwelling features a long, white concrete road that encircles the entire property and continues on its way to the river ahead. It’s as if the brief was to bring continuous line-drawing to life through residential architecture. As seen from an aerial perspective, the concrete road joins to the house on the same slope of the land; appearing to wrap around the walls and merging with the roof before appearing out the other side. So as to avoid cutting down any trees, the path that leads from the house to the water bends and winds sharply around them. The living room opens out onto a large balcony space that merges into a long ramp, turning the balcony into an accessible walkway to the greenery below. The ground floor features a gym, garage and guest house, and upstairs features the main living zone—the interior of which is minimally designed with timber panelling and floor to ceiling glass windows. This was at the wishes of the client, so as to let the surrounding landscape speak for itself.
