American artist Michael Jantzen uses architecture as a creative medium; his ‘Interactive Garden Pavilion’ in Los Angeles explores the idea of interactivity and sustainability in a domestic setting.

Constructed around an octagonal frame, the forest green pavilion has thirty slatted and hinged panels that can be moved to allow the space different uses: entirely open to allow sun and airflow, or closed to create a private and intimate room. From the same wooden panels, two benches with adjustable backrests have been built into the interior of the structure for seating. Designed as a modular and system prefabricated from recycled wood, the ‘Interactive Garden Pavilion’ can be increased or decreased in size dependent on need: the original components can be scaled up or down, and multiple structures can be joined together to create a pavilion with numerous rooms.
