Antonio Schubert’s Stirring Photographs Of Brazilian Rainforests

Scroll

Rio de Janeiro-based photographer Antonio Schubert captures the enigmatic nature of Brazilian forests in his enchanting landscapes; a personal project he has undertaken for ten years.

Schubert is interested in exploring natural landscapes for his photography. A selection of his intriguing images were taken in Mantiqueira, a 320 kilometer mountain range in southeastern Brazil that is difficult for humans to access. This is due to dense and well-preserved forest areas that are full of wild animals, including wolves, cougars, howling monkeys, and reptiles. The name of the mountain range is derived from a word from the Tupian language, spoken by the native Tupi people of Brazil: ‘Mantiqueira’ means “mountains that cry”, referring to the water streams and natural springs that can be found there. “What attracts me is the possibility of seeking the unfathomable”, Schubert said in a recent interview with Feature Shoot. Schubert also ventured through the Floresta da Tijuca, the world’s largest urban rainforest located in Rio de Janeiro. It was there he captured the green hues and misty greys of the jungle, a place where, regardless of any threats from nature, “You experience a sense of great quietness and serenity”.
