Designed by architect Sir Frederick Gibberd in the 1970s, the Modernist building is made from Portland stone and occupies three and a half acres that stretch down to the river Thames. Alongside its function as a gallery space, the multipurpose venue also houses broadcasting studios and office spaces, occupied by creative companies including Dazed Media Group, Fact Magazine, and The Vinyl Factory, amongst others. The building is home to London Fashion Week and The Store X—whose Berlin location we have previously featured. ‘180 The Strand’ has showcased works by some of the biggest names in the art and fashion worlds, including Ai Weiwei and Virgil Abloh, who were commissioned to create a wallpaper frieze and an interactive nightclub installation, respectively.
